Picturesque towns in the vicinity
20 Minutes driving north from Cajarc brings you to the charming town of Figeac, known for the writers that lived there. The town also boats a few excellent restaurants and an attractive market on a Saturday morning. To the south of Cajarc, some 25 minutes driving away, lies the town of Villefranche de Rouergue with its beautiful cathedral and typical French market on a Thursday morning with a wide choice of regional specialties. The medieval town of Cahors is also certainly worth a visit with its art galleries, shops and restaurants, not forgetting the famous place of pilgrimage, Rocamadour, with its black Madonna.
It is sometimes said: the best kept secret in France. The City of Art and History Figeac is a medieval city full of charm. The old town, rich in old heritage, requires a walk. The picturesque alleys along which mansions with carved facades and stone houses with wooden walls undoubtedly make walkers happy. A beautiful place not to miss while traversing the historic center is the beautiful Place of Writings with its contemporary artwork in black granite. But also strolling along the countless shops, visiting the markets and the many restaurants makes this unique city a very suitable outing for young and old.
Saint-Cirq-Lapopie is not only listed on the famous list of “Les Plus Beaux Villages”, but was voted the favorite village of the French in 2012 by the television audience. The village is in a very strategic location and with a few well-placed walls and towers it was easy to defend against all kinds of villains and invading kings. The village is completely car-free and has countless galleries, nice shops and restaurants.

The region around Lot is a paradise for those who really enjoy life to its fullest! The area is renowned for its wine (Cahors and Gaillac), goats’ cheeses (Rocamadour and Cabécou), foie grâs, maigret de canard, saffron, truffles and the (liqueur and oil from) walnuts. It seems that every season is a celebration of regional delights: the saffron festival in Cajarc in September, the wine harvest festival in October, the truffle market in Lalbengue from December till March, seeing the newborn goats and lambs frolicking in the meadows and sampling fresh cheeses in spring.
